The Avet JX G2 Lever Drag Reel is one of the most versatile sizes due to the line capacity, drag, narrow spool, and excellent performance. The reel is a little taller than the MX series reel which increases the line capacity but it also does several other things. The taller narrower spool makes it easier to put the line back on since you don’t have to go from side to side as far. It also increases the inches per crank since the spool is taller, more line comes in with each crank. That taller spool however doesn’t decrease the torque enough to make it noticeable. Â
I really like this reel for vertical fishing since it does have that taller spool. For the fishing I do, I don’t really use this reel for casting but it does cast well. The MC Cast control knob uses magnets to slow the spool down and has 5 settings. Number 1 gives you the lest control and number 5 the most. Slowing the spool down under the cast helps prevents back lashes (birds nest) will actually let you cast farther, especially if you’re new to casting a conventional reel.
Having the 2 speed option is great for several reasons. If you have a sizable fish on and it is doing circles under the boat, it can be difficult to bring it in since you’re fighting the resistance of the fish horizontal to the boat. Putting the reel in low gear brings it in slower but increases the amount of torque you have. Rest the rod and the rail and slowly crank it in. Â
